A while back Microsoft announced .NET Standard 2.1 (here) this was about a year after 2.0 and towards the end of this year (2020) .NET 5 will be available as an early release for developers, I will not go into the importance of .NET 5 now and leave that for another blog post.
FPAssistant SDK needs to support these new software frameworks to give a flexible development opportunity for customers.
Work has started to support .NET Standard 2.1 but we will also keep a version for .NET Standard 2.0…but why? Well, .NET Standard 2.1 is NOT compatible with the .NET Framework even with the latest 4.8 (as I write). As there is a lot of software already developed using the .NET Framework we want to be able to work with different software development environments. It will be a while before everyone has caught up with .NET 5 and released their software products.
So the current plan is to support both .NET Standard 2.0 and 2.1, then later in the year .NET 5. We will endeavour to support .NET Standard 2.0 with all new features but have to balance any new API’s for .NET Standard 2.1 that we might be able to leverage.
The NuGet site will continue with .NET Standard 2.0 but if you want to use FPAssistant SDK for .NET Standard 2.1 then please make contact and we’ll open our private NuGet package area for your use.
